Roulette Rules

Aim of the Game

The aim of the game of roulette is to correctly guess the number or group of numbers that a ball will land on in a spinning wheel. The ball is released into a spinning wheel and as the wheel slows, the ball will drop into a numbered slot. Players need to predict the number that the ball will land on.

Bets in Roulette

There are a number of different bets that can be placed in the game of roulette, although these may vary depending on the version of the game you are playing. Here we will look at the bets that can be placed in the standard game of European roulette. The bets in roulette can be divided into two categories – inside bets and outside bets – with a total of five bets per category and ten bets altogether.

Inside bets:

  • Straight bet – a bet on a specific number
  • Split beta bet on two adjacent numbers on the roulette table
  • Street bet – also known as a line bet or row bet, this is a bet on a row of three numbers on the roulette table
  • Corner bet – a bet on the four numbers in the corner of the roulette table
  • Double street bet – also known as a six line bet, this is a bet on two adjacent rows of numbers

Outside bets:

  • Red or black bet – a bet on a red or black number
  • Odd or even bet – a bet on an odd or even number
  • High or low bet – a bet on a number falling in a high or low group, between 1 – 18 or 19 – 36
  • Column bet – a bet on a column of 12 numbers
  • Dozen bet – a bet on a group of a dozen numbers – 1 – 12, 13 – 24 or 25 – 36

Playing the Game

To begin a game of roulette players must place a bet on the roulette table. The croupier will release the ball into the roulette wheel and just before the ball is about to drop into a slot, he will call out “no more bets”. You may then not touch your chips until all winners have been paid out. Once your bet is placed, sit back and wait to see if you have won. You will be paid out according to the paytable of the casino.

Guide to Poker hands

Before playing the online casino games of poker, it is essential that one know what the various poker hands are. Additionally, it is important to know how the ranking of the hands compare to each other. Without knowing this information, it is quite difficult to effectively play the game of poker.

According to the rules of poker, certain combinations of cards create certain hands. These hands are all ranked according to a hierarchy that determines which player or players will win the poker hand. Of all the poker hands, the one that will outrank anything is the royal flush. In order to have a hand that is a royal flush, it should have an ace, king, queen, jack and ten but that is not all. These cards must also be of the same suit. The second ranking poker hand would be what is called a straight flush. A straight flush is simply any five cards in sequential order. They do not have to be of the same suite. Keep in mind if your straight flush has a ten card high and another player’s straight flush has an 8 card high, you would win.

A four of a kind is the third highest ranking hand in poker. As the name states, just need to have four cards that are the same. Like the straight flush, having four higher rank cards would beat cards of a lower rank. Remember with poker, it’s all about rank. A hand known as a full house would come next in the poker hand hierarchy. This means you have two of a kind paired with three of a kind. The fifth of the poker hand is a flush. A flush means you have cards that have the same suit.

Next in line would be a straight. To have a straight in poker, all of your cards would be of the same suit. However, they do not have to be in any particular numerical order. A three of a kind would come next and then a pair. The lowest poker hand would simply be having a high card in your hand. The player with the highest card would win. As simple as this sounds, it does happen quite frequently when determining the winner of a poker game.
